The Berlin Wall: 20 YEARS AFTER!

The Berlin Wall (German: Berliner Mauer) was a barrier separating West Berlin from East Berlin and the rest of East Germany. The longer 'inner German border' demarcated the remainder of the East-West German border between the two states. Both borders were part of the Iron Curtain. The East German government constructed the Berlin Wall to stop East Germans from fleeing.The wall separated East Berlin and West Berlin for 28 years, from the day construction began on August 13, 1961 until it was dismantled in 1989, and was considered to be a longtime symbol of the Iron Curtain. During this period, at least 136 people were confirmed killed trying to cross the Wall into West Berlin, according to official figures.

Blue-Spotted Arab (Colotis phisidia) is a small butterfly of the Family Pieridae, that is, the Yellows and Whites, which is found in India.

The Flag of Brazil - Description of the Brazilian Flag
The description of the Brazilian Flag is as follows:
The overall Brazilian flag background is green
With a large yellow diamond in the center
The diamond bears a blue celestial globe with 27 white five-pointed stars (one for each state and the Federal District) arranged in the same pattern as the night sky over Brazil
The globe has a white equatorial band with the motto ORDEM E PROGRESSO (Order and Progress)

Porto-Novo
Porto-Novo (pôr'tō nō'vō) [key], city (1992 pop. 179,138), capital of Benin, S Benin, a port on Porto-Novo lagoon, an arm of the Gulf of Guinea. It is Benin's second largest city and an administrative and shipping center. However, it is less important commercially and industrially than Cotonou, to which it is connected by rail. Porto-Novo is the trade center for an agricultural region whose chief product is palm oil; the city's exports include palm oil, cotton, and kapok. Probably founded in the late 16th cent. as the capital of a small kingdom, Porto-Novo [new port] got its name from the Portuguese, who built a trading post there in the 17th cent. Africans were shipped as slaves from Porto-Novo to the Americas. The Porto-Novo kingdom accepted French encroachment in 1863 as a means of fending off Great Britain, which was active in nearby S Nigeria. However, the inland Dahomean kingdom of Abomey resented the French presence, and fighting broke out. In 1883 the French navy landed at Porto-Novo and Cotonou. Porto-Novo was incorporated into Dahomey colony and in 1900 was made its capital. The Institute of Higher Studies of Benin is in the city.

Porto-Novo was once a tributary of the Yoruba kingdom of Oyo and there continues to be a sizable Yoruba community in Porto Novo today. The city's name is of Portuguese origin, meaning "New Port." It was originally developed as a port for the slave trade.
In 1863, the British, who were active in nearby Nigeria, bombarded the city, which convinced the Kingdom of Porto-Novo to accept French protection. The neighboring Kingdom of Abomey objected to French involvement in the region, and war broke out between the two states. In 1883, Porto-Novo was incorporated into the French "colony of Dahomey and its dependencies". In 1900 it became Dahomey's capital city.
The kings of Porto-Novo continued to rule in the city, both officially and unofficially, until the death of the last king, Alohinto Gbeffa, in 1976. From 1908, the king held the title of Chef supérieur.
Many Afro-Brazilians settled in Porto-Novo following their return to Africa after emancipation in Brazil. Brazilian architecture and foods are important to the city's cultural life.

My first cover from Yaoundé, Cameroun

My friend and Priest-to-be Mumba sent me this cover with a stamp showing the frienship between Cameroun and Japan. So, 1 €=630.72 Francs camarounais then 410 Francs its around 0.40€.
If you wanna send a cover from Luxembourg to Cameroun you will need more 0.50€: total 0.90€.

Good News, Philatelic News from Angola!

The CTT go to invest 1,43 million dollar in Angola in the express launching of operations of orders, among others services, in a partnership with the Post offices of Angola, announced the president of the Portuguese company. According to Estanislau Coast, the preparation of the operation in Angola elapses has one year and will have to be concluded before the 2009 end. In the partnership with the Post offices of Angola, CTT Correios de Portugal, SA goes withholds a 50% position, according to source. In the scope of the strategy of internationalization of the CTT, according to Estanislau Coast, also they will be invested a million of euros (1,43 million dollar), in Moçambique. Angolan Postcarts: Did you know that...

The Mumuilas is mainly creative of cattle, this is its main source of income and sustenance. This people has well singular characteristics in relation to the other peoples of Angola… to my eyes the Mumuilas is people with an only essence, a people of mysteries and wisdom… They are from the province of Huíla.

The Huíla is a province of Angola, that occupies an area of 79,022 km ² and has a population of 1.559,000 approximately inhabitants. Lubango is the capital of the province. The province of the Huíla has the following municipalities; Quilengues, Humpata, Chibia, Chiange, Quipungo, Caluquembe, Caconda, Chicomba, Matala, Chipindo, Kuvango, Youngest child, Gambos and Lubango. The aspiral road known by Leba and the national park of the Bicuari, are in the province of the Huíla.

Lubango, (known as Sá da Bandeira during the Portuguese colonial age) was the first one to be inhabited when its cinquenta fertile land atraíu Bóer families (the Dorslandtrekkers) of Transvaai in the beginning of years 1880. These Bóer families, had developed the land and had gotten Portuguese citizenship. In 1882 A thousand Bóer families had approximately arrived at the Lubango, coming from Portugal. These Portuguese agriculturists had had many successes in the plantations and potato harvest candy. In 1910 already they more than lived in the Lubango 1700 Madeirenses8from Madeira Island). In 1923 the railway line of Moçamedes connected the village of the Bóer families the Atlantic coast. The Portuguese government officially transformed into a city and call to capital of Huíla as the Sá da Bandeira. Had the rejection for the Nhaneka-Humbe people of living in the city, Sá da Bandeira was the only city in Angola before independence, with bigger population number of people of white race. After the Independence of Angola, the city was called again Lubango.

So, the first postcard show a single girl, and the other married women. The difference is on the breast. Married woman put a line on the breast to lay down when they get married (In the occident people use gold alliances, right?). Iam not Mumuíla and I didn´t intended to seduce or do something wrong sending this kind of postcards. This is a traditional costume in one province of my country.

Angola is a tropical country. Less clothes means comfort for us. Iam Kimbunda and in my province, Luanda) we dress like this (take a look on the right side of this blog. Smile, its me!).
